It Won't Be Long

Countdown to the big 0-7! It's just a few more days until my little baby is a slightly older baby. What's that, one year in dog years? So yeah, totally still a baby.

I know there are other things to be excited about today--the Giants having won the World Series last night, Halloween coming up tomorrow--but for me, it's all about the little curly headed boy who sometimes, somehow, seems to control every aspect of my life. In a good way.

Damn Good Times

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then this post is worth, like 6,000 words. Right? Right.

My Day As a VIP At the SAP Center in San Jose, Home of the San Jose Sharks, October 25th, 2014

The inner-workings of a hockey arena: these tubes supply beer to the concession stands in the Shark Tank.

Extra goals hanging on the wall.

Is that a Zamboni you're sitting on or are you just happy to see me?

Mere feet from Marleau as he takes shots during warm up.

Yes, Marleau again, seconds after the high-five/fist-bump parade of insane fun as the Sharks walked from the dressing room to the ice.

Still drunk on happy in the VIP box during the first period. You know, before the Sharks lost to the Buffalo Sabers, AKA the Worst Team in Hockey.

Distracted

Too busy today to blog about my amazing VIP experience at the Sharks game on Saturday. More on that tomorrow. Here's a tower.

Here Comes Science

Did you know that there was a partial solar eclipse yesterday afternoon? Well, there was. I think lots of folks had a pretty meh reaction. Those folks don't work where I work with the people I work with.

For instance, here is Keegan explaining the whole situation to me (Don't judge. Math is hard. Shopping is fun.). The apple is the moon, and the calculator is the Earth. And now I know all about the lunar cycle and tides and the equator and lots of other stuff!

My multi-talented boss, Richard, made a super cool box so we could look "at" the eclipse, pinhole camera style when the time came, at about 2:30:

And it totally worked!

When it was time for round two, the 3:30 peak time, our metalsmithing neighbor, Adam, brought over his special eye-shielding mask! This made the whole experience quite sci-fi, and amused the folks walking by:

Yay! Science!

Take Me Out

TBT: the kiddo fell asleep on our way home from his first giants game on May, 2011. Hot dogs, ice cream, and the stuffed Lou Seal from the Build-a-Bear workshop in the concession area behind the outfield. Hooray for capitalism! And hooray for the Giants!

I just realized that this was during the phase when he would wear his Superman cape EVERYWHERE. It was one of those special birthday gifts that keeps on giving.

Movin' On Up

This little seven day old bundle of joy is going to be SEVEN YEARS OLD next week.

How did that happen? Honestly, all I did was take a bathroom break and when I came back this had happened.

How is a tiny little baby TYING HIS OWN SHOES?! And he had lost eight teeth. Seriously, life. WTF.

Vitamins

Another reason why Cheerios have been the ultimate breakfast cereal for ages and ages:

Maybe they come with toys anymore, but that didn't stop my kid from multitasking the other morning--preparing for a great day of learning, playing and growing, while simultaneously drowning the Bad Guy in a bowl full of 12 vitamins and minerals that can help lower cholesterol (double asterisks).

It Ain't Over Till It's Over

Look!

It rained for like 10 minutes this morning! The drought is officially over!

She Cooks Me Oatmeal!

Oh, throw back Thursday. You always know just how to make me spend my entire lunch break looking at old pictures on Google + (yeah, that's right. GOOGLE PLUS, BITCHES.).

Totally worth it.

January 2009, 15 month old Samson. He still eats breakfast exactly the same way. True story.

You Shook Me All Night Long

Because my best friend is so incredibly super awesome, I'll be doing this tonight:

RIGHT?! But first, I'll be eating here:

I've said it before and I'll say it again: BEST. HUSBAND. EVER.

Making Things With Light

My husband is a fix-it-and-make-it-nice genius, so I got to spend the evening last night enjoying the backyard quiet with a glowing peacefulness...

The Backyard is definitely the now and happening place to be here in the upscale neighborhood of My House. Locals are saying that minimalist hot spot The Living Room is so last season--one frequent visitor pointed out that the decor was "...very indoorsy. What's up with that? How am I even supposed to dig in here?" The Backyard has certainly become a socially heated spot for both the dog and squirrel communities, which often results in territorial issues and lound barking. But the tensions in The Backyard don't even come close to matching those of the southwestern neighborhood of Our Room, where the generations-old dog-cat clashes continue and occasionally expand into the uncharted territory of Under The Bed. Negotiators from the Master Bathroom and Under The Dresser have tried to shepherd in a peace treaty, but to no avail.

A Different Point Of View

What a gorgeous day! There's just no way that it's almost Halloween. So warm and sunny, it's kind of ridiculous. In fact, I was enjoying the sunshine so much that I totally forgot to take my Monday photo of the Sutro Tower on my daily walk to Coffee Bar. Luck for us, there's the Cloud. So how about this Sutro Tower picture from 2005:

Happy Monday everyone!

What I Like About You

Throw Back Thursday indeed! Let's travel back to Fall of 2001 when Max and I first lived together in Davis. I had my first horrible, awful, no good, very bad job ever, and Max completed his BA in Psychology. More importantly, he drove an awesome red Jeep Wrangler (yes, ladies, he was downright dreamy). This was also when Max became an honest to goodness dog lover. Here his is, cuddling the hell out of Ozzy on our old blue Ikea sofa that my Grandpa Henry gave us as a housewarming gift. Talk about a throwback! Yikes!

All Night Long

So what's the deal with 10 hour videos on You Tube? I don't mean like someone posting a Ken Burns series on You Tube, but like whenever I search for a song on You Tube, it seems like there's always an option to listen to the song for 10 hours straight.

OH THE HUMANITY.

Hmm...I just realized that this could be an excellent way to eliminate bad behavior with the kiddo! "Eat your vegetables or I'll play the Chicken Song. FOR TEN HOURS!"

Make Some Noise

Well...it has begun.

I think we all knew it was inevitable. And some of us are even excited about it. But the best--and most surprising--part is that he was more interested in recording me while I was playing, 80's era MTV video style. It was pretty damn awesome, and now I don't feel so bad for showing him those Def Leppard and Van Halen videos the other night. Winning!

It's All Too Much

I was shocked by this bright and clear view of the tower this morning. After spending my morning cimmute driving through some of the thickest fog I've seen in a while, I was not expecting to see such monumental glory just 2.5 hours later. And it still feels more like spring than like Indian summer.

One of these days, I'm going to write an actual post about how it has felt to reach and glide past the 5th anniversary of the discovery of the brain tumor. In a few more days, it will be the 5th anniversary of having the sucker removed, as well as the official diagnosis. So maybe I'll find something worth posting about by then, but for now, It's business as usual. And that makes me really, really happy.

It's A Sunshine Day

I swear, I spent a significant amount of time trying to figure out a clever way to work this CNN headline into a story about my dog, Turkey Sandwich, for this post:

Conclusion: inappropriate. Also, it's way too beautiful outside to think about things and stuff.

At The Zoo

Hooray, Throwback Thursday! Here's a good one for all you BFF's out there:

There's no BFF like a goat BFF. This was back in the olden days of 2011 when Samson was four years old and would pose for pictures. Without rolling his eyes. Or making stupid faces. Or frowning.

Did I mention that today is school picture day?

I'm Waiting For The Man

Instead of managing the exciting world of custom upholstery today, I'm at home, waiting for the plumber. It all started at 6:30 this morning when a sweaty, smelly me got home from boot camp in desperate need of a shower. I turned the handle up to hot and the handle replied, screw you lady, I quit. Meet my substitute, ice fucking cold.

We'd been having hot water issues for a while now, but it was mostly with the kitchen sink--which, by the way, I ingeniously fixed last weekend by simply cleaning the faucet. Huh. Apparently, the little spray nozzles get clogged which brings the water pressure down which stops the temperature sensor on our tankless water heater from functioning properly.

Yes, I know--this is a terribly thrilling blog post.

It seems that one whole week of correctly functioning plumbing throughout the entire house is simply one whole week too many. Still, I'd rather sit in our sunny backyard with Turkey Sandwich and wait for the plumber than deal with the historically more regular plumbing issue we've had off and on here for the last six years. (Hint: it involves toilet paper escaping through one of three clean out valves on the property or a sewer hole in the street in front of the driveway. And it's so super gross.)

Ending yucky plumbing problem transmission. Commencing operation sunny backyard dog belly.
